Launched in 2019 and expanded globally in 2020, KINTO is Toyota’s dedicated mobility brand created to shift the company from being solely a car manufacturer to a full mobility provider. Built around subscription services, car sharing, and flexible leasing, KINTO reflects Toyota’s vision of “mobility for all,” giving customers access to vehicles and services in a way that is seamless, flexible, and sustainable.

I was employed by Smoke & Mirrors design agency and subcontracted to Toyota to help get Kinto’s website presence over the line at speed. Kinto was Toyota’s new mobility brand, and the challenge was to design fresh webpages and components that introduced it as something distinct, while still carrying the authority of Toyota’s established identity. On top of that, all designs had to work within Tridion, Toyota’s custom CMS, which was rigid and made pushing layouts difficult. Iteration meetings and wireframing were key to moving fast while keeping creativity within the system’s limits.
Launching such a high-profile product meant the designs had to do more than just look good—they needed to position Kinto as a modern mobility service offering subscriptions, sharing, and flexible access, while still tying back to Toyota. Alongside this core work, I also produced designs for standard Toyota webpages, which required switching gears between innovating for Kinto and maintaining consistency across the wider brand.
Below is a list of the tools and technologies I used to complete this project. Selected to support the design process, streamline development, and ensure a high-quality final outcome.

To do my job effectively as a UI designer at Toyota, I was provided with three key resources: assets, documentation, and their CMS. I received all the imagery intended for the Kinto launch, a comprehensive document outlining existing components and web designs, and an in-depth one-on-one session with the project owner to walk me through their Tridion CMS.
These resources not only gave me everything I needed to deliver designs that were creative and aligned with Toyota’s standards, but also provided guidance on how far I could push outside the existing creative—something that was extremely important for shaping Kinto’s distinct identity.
The next step was iteration. I worked from user flows and content provided by the team, while regular sessions with the product owner guided the direction. Through wireframes, sketches, and early design explorations. We refined the concepts through several rounds of feedback and iteration, ensuring the final direction struck the right balance between creativity and practicality.
The solution not only worked within the constraints of Tridion CMS but was also designed to be scalable, allowing components to be reused and adapted across future pages. Each component was carefully crafted to reflect the Kinto brand identity while maintaining consistency with Toyota’s established standards, resulting in a design system that was both flexible and implementation-ready.
A key part of my role was not just designing components, but also implementing them directly within Toyota’s Tridion CMS. This meant I had to quickly get to grips with the system inside and out—a steep learning curve given its outdated UI and rigid structure, which made it far from user friendly. To deliver what was needed.
I relied heavily on my front-end expertise, building and adjusting webpages in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so the designs could work seamlessly within Tridion’s limitations.
Here is a snapshot of my work on Toyota Kinto, showcasing the impact of my UI design, rapid prototyping, and scalable components. These highlights reflect how I contributed to a successful launch and set the foundation for future development, with full project details below.
